Viral X-Files

This is the type of story that plays to my paranoid nature.  In Longmont Colorado, a girl was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead on the scene.  No foul play.  No marks, or anything like that.  The police think it might be the flu or something.  They can’t tell if it’s the flu?!  So they call the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and they investigate in FULL HAZMAT suits!  What’s worse, they sprayed them off after leaving the house, like with a radiation leak or super contagious infection.

They also don’t tell you how old the girl was, what she was doing before or after, what made the family bring her into the hospital, who brought her in, or what they did or did not find.  Very suspicious.

They aren’t even using Hazmat suits on that horrible SARS breakout that started in the Middle East and seems to have moved to the UK.

Reemergence of Tuberculosis, now DRUG RESISTANT!

In South Africa, Tuberculosis has been evolving constantly.  It is a bacterial lung affliction that that is second only to HIV in the amount of people killed annually.  And that was when the HAD effective antibiotics.  It isn’t that the current antibiotics don’t work well.  They have been “not working well” for years now.  The phrase that is being used is “virtually untreatable”.  In extreme cases, years of hospitalization are required, with a harsh drug regimen.

I wondered why this only happens in Third World countries, and not here, then I realized that our advanced medical breakthroughs eliminate he disease here.  Unfortunately through that elimination process, the the diseases evolve and become stronger.  When they spread to other parts of the world, they are bigger, stronger, faster, and sometimes a new disease strain entirely.

Saudi Arabian Sars *UPDATE* 2/12/13

As I reported last year, a strange outbreak of SARS linked to Saudi Arabia has claimed a 10th victim.  This article is either alarmist, or something else is going on.  10 people is not a lot, especially compared to this terrible flu season.  On top of that, this disease is not contagious human to human.

What makes this particular strain so deadly is the acute attack on the kidneys and the lungs.

Typhoid Purduey (Not as catchy as Mary)

Similar to the real life Typhoid Mary, a woman at Purdue University contracted Typhoid in a foreign country and brought it to the US.  She MAY have infected several people at Purdue University, but no numbers have been released yet. People are being quarantined.

The scariest part is that for college kids, you almost HAVE to eat in the cafeteria.  Most people expect to die because of the terrible quality of the food itself, NOT because someone tainted it with Typhoid.  That’s just science.

It looks like I have to start:

This post (and the Swine Flu Vaccine) may cause Narcolepsy

I am well aware that my posts that center around “Anti Vaccine” rants are far and away my least popular.  This one, however, may put you out cold.  It turns out that Glaxo-Smith-Kline’s 2009 Swine Flu vaccine has been linked to HUGE spikes in the development of Narcolepsy in kids under the age of 20.  This conclusion is the results of several independent studies, about to be released in a UK peer reviewed medical journal.  This particular vaccine was the one given across Europe.  Several European nations are involved with the study and its findings.  I will let you read the article for more information.  The one thing that SHOCKED me was that the alleged cause was Pandemrix, a booster that has devastating effects on those under 20 years of age.  Apparently this additive was NOT allowed in US version of the vaccine.  I did not see that one coming.  Apparently a lobbyist took the day off when that bill was passed.

At least the vaccine stopped this historically deadly disease!  Right?  The Swine Flu wasn’t just media hype right?
